CO2 Calculator (Carbon Footprint of Food)

CO2 Calculator is an additional feature for JAMIX Kitchen Intelligence System. It calculates the carbon footprint of food. Before you can use the calculator, you need to add CO2 values for ingredients into the system. In Finland the system includes category based CO2 values for all ingredients. You can add CO2 values from eg. manufacturers in the system, as well.

The system will automatically calculate the CO2 values for recipes and meals. 

If you publish your menu to the end-customers with JAMIX MENU service, the CO2 values will be included in the published menu.

 

Deployment Of The CO2 Calculator

1. License

If you have taken the CO2 Calculator:

  • At the same time with JAMIX Kitchen Intelligence System, you don't need to activate the license separately.
  • To JAMIX System that is already in use, you need to update your license: Help - License: Update license

 

2. CO2 Values Used In Carbon Footprint Calculations

Adding Or Editing CO2 Values

You can add or edit CO2 values in BASIC DATA - Nutritive Values: CO2 Emission Factor

If you edit a value registered earlier in the system, clear the field completely before adding the new value. Remember to update or add the source information into the Additional Info field.

Finland: CO2 Values Included In the System

JAMIX system includes category based CO2 values for all ingredients. They are included in the Nutritive Values. The source information is registered in the Additional Info field of the Nutritive Value.

3. Linking The Nutritive Values To Ingredients Or To Stock Cards

For the system to be able to utilize the CO2 values registered in the nutritive values, they have to be linked to ingredients, or to stock cards that are linked to ingredients.

If you are utilizing stock cards, we recommend to link the nutritive values to them.

Utilizing The CO2 Calculator In The System

The system calculates the CO2 values for recipes per portion or per 100 g. The calculation is based on the CO2 values registered in the nutritive values.

There are reference values in the system based on average CO2 emissions for different types of meals (snacks, main courser, desserts). The average emissions have been calculated from a JAMIX data base including different types of recipes.

You can monitor the CO2 information in the following functions:

  • FOOD - Recipes
  • FOOD - Servings
  • FOOD - Menus

The CO2 calculation for recipes and servings is shown in its own tab on the right. The system calculates the CO2 values per portion as default. You can choose to have the calculation per 100 g.

You can have the CO2 calculation for menus in the Calculations printout, as well as in the Ingredients, reference intake printout. You can activate/de-activate the CO2 calculation for both printouts. In addition to recipes, in the printouts the carbon footprint is shown for ingredients that are linked with a nutritive value including a CO2 value (eg. juice, yoghurt, etc.).

The carbon footprint will be automatically included in the menu published with JAMIX MENU service. The carbon footprint is shown per 100 g by meal, as well as by menu items. The reference values for different types of meals are shown in JAMIX MENU, as well.
