Dynamic Menus: Menu Cycle

You can set a cycle for the menu which defines how many times the menu will be repeated. For example, a menu for 5 weeks with a cycle of 3 will have a total duration of 15 weeks. The system will calculate the total duration for the menu based on the value set as the cycle and it will automatically add the subsequent weeks on the menu.

If the cycle feature is used on the menu, you can modify the menu content in two different ways. Either cycle-specifically or by making changes at once to all cycles of the menu with the Master Cycle functionality. With the master cycle functionality it is easy and quick to change for example a steak meal on the Monday of the second week of the menu into a soup meal. This information will be updated immediately to all menu cycles on the corresponding time.

Note! If the Dynamic Menus functionality has not been activated in the Food tab of the Basic Data - Settings - Program Settings, you can edit the information on the menu only in the Master Cycle window.

This article contains the following topics:

Adding A Cycle To The Menu

  • Choose Food – Menus from the menu bar on the left.
  • Select the menu (or create a new menu, see manual for Adding a Menu) to which you want to add a cycle.
  • Open the menu by double-clicking on it.
  • Open the Duration tab on the right side of the window. In the Cycles field, add how many times you want the weeks you have added to the menu to be repeated in the same order. The system will automatically calculate the total duration for the menu in the Total field and it will add the weeks into the menu. At the same time the Master Cycle and Current Cycle buttons related to the Menu Cycle will be activated on the top of the menu. With these functionalities you can browse the rotating menu and edit it, if needed.

NOTE! After the cycle has been added to the menu, you can edit the information related to duration and cycle only when the Master Cycle functionality is selected.

Editing A Rotating Menu

You can make changes to the menu depending on user rights, on kitchens and on whether you are editing the information on the Master Cycle or on the Current Cycle window.

NOTE! The Dynamic Menus functionality has to be activated in the Food tab of the Basic Data – Settings – Program Settings for you to be able to make kitchen-specific changes on shared menus.

Master Cycle Window

  • User right: Administrator
  • Shared menu visible to all kitchens/users
  • Shared is selected as the kitchen in the Kitchen field of the General tab.

You can add, delete, disable and enable meal types, recipes, ingredients and servings.

In addition you can edit the portion size, the amount of portions and the prices on the menu rows.

You can also add or delete weeks and days, if there are no changes made cycle-specifically – for example changes in portion size or the amount of portions.

  • User right: Basic User / Administrator
  • Kitchen-specific menu
  • One of the kitchens is selected as the kitchen in the Kitchen field of the General tab .
You can add and delete kitchen-specific recipes and ingredients. These menu rows are displayed in blue color to communicate that they are kitchen-specific.

You can disable and enable recipes and ingredients of the shared menu. You can edit the portion sizes, amounts of portions and prices of meal types and recipe rows.

You cannot add/delete/disable/enable weeks, days or meal types.

Current Cycle Window

  • User right: Basic User / Administrator
  • Shared menu visible to all kitchens/users

You can disable and enable recipes, ingredients and servings of the Master Cycle cycle-specifically.

You can add cycle-specific recipes and delete them, if needed. These menu rows are displayed in blue color when they are kitchen-specific.

You can edit portion sizes, portion amounts and prices of meal types and recipe rows cycle-specifically.

You cannot add/delete/disable/enable weeks, days or meal types.

The administrator is able to browse and edit kitchen-specific menus that have been created based on the shared menus. In that case the kitchen in question has to be selected in the Kitchen field of the General tab. The administrator can edit shared menus kitchen-specifically in the same way as the basic user of the kitchen.

Master Cycle Of The Menu

Changes made in the Master Cycle function will affect all cycles of the menu. This is why there are no dates related to weekdays on the menu when you are working in the Master Cycle.

Select the Master Cycle button with a blank calendar icon on the top of the menu. The menu window will change and the system will display the weeks on the menu without dates or subsequent cycles.

Current Cycle Of The Menu

You can browse and edit information on the menu cycle-specifically, as well. In that case the changes will affect only the cycle in question.

Select the Current Cycle button with a calendar icon on the top of the menu. The system will display the menu cycle based on the current date. You can move on to the next/previous cycle by clicking on the right/left button with one arrow on the top of the menu. You can move on to the last/first cycle by clicking on the right/left button with two arrows.

Adding Meal Type, Recipe, Ingredient Or Serving Into The Menu

See manual for Adding Menus.

Disabling/Enabling And Deleting Menu Rows

Select a menu row and click it with the right mouse button. Select the functionality of your choice from the drop-down menu.

NOTE! The functionalities available for selection will vary depending on the user and window (see chapter for Editing a Rotating Menu).

If you select Disable, the system will mark the row as disabled and it will be displayed in gray color. A disabled row will be handled by the system similarly to a deleted row, and it will not be included for example in printouts or in the JAMIX MENU service. You can enable a disabled row by selecting Enable from the drop-down menu of the row.

You can delete a row permanently by selecting Delete.

Editing A Menu Row

  • Select the menu row and click on it with the right mouse button.
  • Select Edit from the drop-down menu.
  • Make the changes needed to portion size, portion amount or prices, for example.
  • Exit the window by choosing Close.

Saving The Menu

Save the menu by choosing Save on the top of the window.
